Carthage woman to be sentenced for drug trafficking Monday

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s office agreed to dismiss two felony drug charges against a Carthage woman as part of a plea agreement filed November 13 in Jasper County Circuit Court, the day Gayle Marie McNear, 64, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking.

In exchange for that guilty plea, the prosecuting attorney’s office recommended a sentence of no more than five years.

The final decision will be up to Jasper County Circuit Court Judge Dean Dankelson when McNear’s sentencing hearing is held Monday.

McNear was charged following the execution of a search warrant by the Ozarks Drug Enforcement Team and the Carthage Police Department June 15, 2022. According to the ODET news release, detectives confiscated “a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine, miscellaneous drug paraphernalia and two guns and several unknown pills.”
