Walter Alan “Wonka” Hubbard

Walter Alan “Wonka” Hubbard passed away April 12th 2026.

A band alumnus of Memorial high school class 1976, Alan always encouraged others in their musical pursuits and to be the best that they could be. He loved giving his voice to church choirs and brought his own insightful interpretation to vocal solos. Those that knew him will always appreciate his unique insight, sense of humor, and surprisingly quick wit, especially when there was a game to be won and cheating wasn’t too obvious. He had a love of ping pong and going to the YMCA to play with friends.

He was dedicated to his family, which was demonstrated through his weekly phone calls to family members and the many postcards that he sent. Alan was known for keeping the family on top of their birthday card sending, cat stories, tomato gardening, and 4th of July fireworks shopping. His love of Billy Joel is shared by his family who will always think of him when they hear his songs.

He is survived by his daughter, Laci Hubbard-Mattix; son-in-law, Travis Mattix; sister, Janet Hubbard and husband Jon Lindsay; brother, Dale and wife Joanne; and niblings, Skylar, Ceff, and Julia; and also his Sunny Hills family where he spent the last few years. Alan will be missed deeply by all that knew him.

His visitation is from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm, Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Knell Mortuary in Carthage. Graveside services will follow at 12:30 pm, at Hackney Cemetery, Carthage. After the service, a family gathering will be held at the Probert Family Farm, 8795 Baseline Boulevard, Jasper, MO 64755. Memorial gifts are suggested to Ozark Mental Health Center or Hackney Cemetery in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary.
