CARTHAGE, Mo. — Veterans residing in Mt. Vernon’s Veterans Home will be receiving 28 handmade quilts and 3 fleece-tied blankets that were donated on November 26, 2025, by the Aurora and Carthage Women’s Relief Societies of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Robin Jackson, of the Carthage Ward Relief Society, started the quilt donation project. She made 80 baby quilt tops and gave 72 of those quilts to the Aurora Relief Society, whose members turned them into lap quilts by adding batting, backing, binding the edges, and donating them to the Mt. Vernon Veterans Home.

Robin began sewing at age seven on her mother’s sewing machine, which machine Robin received upon her high school graduation. This led to her professional alterations and sewing business.
Robin says, “Necessity is the mother of invention.” So when Robin’s couch needed reupholstering, Robin expanded her talent into upholstery.
It was just one year ago that Robin took up quilting to use her extra cloth pieces. She is very pleased that the Aurora Relief Society was able to finish the quilts and donate them to Mt. Vernon Veterans Home.
The goal of the Women’s Relief Societies in the Church of Jesus Christ is to go “about doing good” (Acts 10:38). There are over 7 million members around the world. Global Relief Societies have given spiritual, emotional, and temporal relief through projects such as support for refugees, supporting immunization campaigns, giving disaster relief, initiating clean water & sanitation projects, and helping with maternal & newborn care. Therefore, there will be more good projects coming from the Carthage Relief Society.
