CWEP Invites the Community to Attend Free Customer Academy

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Ever wondered what it takes to keep Carthage powered, connected, and supplied with clean, safe water every day?

Carthage Water & Electric Plant (CWEP) is accepting applications for its upcoming 2026 Customer Academy, a free, interactive program designed to give customers a behind-the-scenes look at their local public utility.

The Customer Academy is a five-session series that provides participants with a hands-on learning experience covering CWEP’s electric, water, wastewater, and fiber services. Attendees will hear directly from CWEP leadership and staff, explore utility operations, and gain a deeper understanding of how essential services are delivered safely and reliably to the community.

“This program is all about transparency and connection,” said Meagan Milliken, Public Relations Manager of CWEP. “As a locally owned, community-powered utility, we believe it’s important for our customers to understand how their utility operates and the work that goes into serving them every day.”

Sessions will be held on consecutive Wednesday evenings starting Wednesday, April 8th at 5:30 p.m. and will be held in the CWEP Community Room (627 W. Centennial Ave., Carthage MO). Each session will include presentations, interactive demonstrations, and guided tours of CWEP facilities. Dinner will be provided for participants at each session.

Topics covered throughout the program include:

  • Utility history and customer service operations
  • Electric generation and distribution
  • Water treatment and distribution
  • Wastewater treatment processes
  • Fiber internet and communications services

The program is open to all CWEP customers who are interested in learning more about their utility and becoming more engaged in their community.

“Many people don’t realize just how much goes on behind the scenes to keep our community running,” said Milliken.

“The CWEP Customer Academy is a great opportunity to learn, ask questions, and see firsthand how CWEP serves Carthage.”

Space is limited, and interested participants are encouraged to apply now!
