Nancy Jane Adams, 78, Carthage, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Aspire Senior Living, Webb City, Missouri. She was born on January 9, 1948, in Watseka, Illinois, the daughter of the late Charles Luther Adams and Maxine (Gowin) Adams.
She was a graduate of Carthage High School with the Class of 1966. Following high school, she attended Cottey College and later continued her education at Pittsburg State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in social work. Her education reflected her desire to help others, and that calling guided her throughout her life and career.
Nancy worked as a social worker for the state of Missouri, where she dedicated herself to serving others with patience and understanding. Her work was meaningful to her, and she approached it with the same compassion and integrity that defined her personal life. She made a difference in the lives of many through her commitment to helping those in need. After her retirement from social work, she dedicated the next years of her life to being a care giver for several people. Outside of her work, Nancy found joy in the simple and meaningful parts of life. She enjoyed planting and tending to her flowers, and she took great pleasure in caring for her cats and dogs. She was also a member of the Carthage High School Band Aids, an involvement that reflected her connection to her community and her school years. These interests brought her happiness and gave her many cherished moments over the years.
Nancy is survived by her longtime companion of 30 years, Jerry Guinn of Webb City, Missouri; her nephew and niece, Jason Adams and Lisel Stancil, both of Boise, Idaho; her sister, Carol Ann Suter of St. Louis, Missouri; and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Adams.
Those who knew Nancy will remember her for her loving heart, her kind nature, and her friendly manner. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, quiet strength, and devotion to family, friends, and the many lives she touched; she had an unwavering faith in people.
