Kristy Darlene Benton, 47, Carl Junction, Missouri, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri. Kristy was born on February 25, 1979, in Newport, Arkansas, the daughter of Deborah Matlock and Larry Hopgood, Sr. She was a loving, friendly, and thoughtful woman whose life was centered on family, kindness, and the simple joys that made each day meaningful.
Kristy spent her life as a homemaker and loving wife, a role she embraced with devotion and pride. She found purpose in caring for her home and in creating a place where love, comfort, and togetherness could flourish. Those who knew her will remember her as someone who gave generously of herself and who made others feel welcome and valued. Her gentle spirit and caring nature left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
She enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating, and she found happiness in the outdoors and in the peaceful moments those activities brought. Kristy also loved her chickens and dogs, and she took great joy in the companionship they provided. Above all else, she loved her family deeply, and her greatest happiness came from spending time with the people she held dear. Her life was a reflection of devotion, resilience, and affection, and she will be remembered for the many ways she showed her love.
Kristy is survived by her companion of 17 years, Jonathan Cain; her daughter, Courtney Hopgood; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Stately and Iris Rohr; her mother, Deborah Russell; her siblings, Larry Hopgood, Jr. and Jason Hopgood; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory. She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Hopgood, Sr.; her children, Natasha McClelland and Jonathan McClelland; and her brother, Shannon Matlock. The love she shared with her family will remain a lasting source of comfort and remembrance.
