CARTHAGE, Mo. — It was a charged atmosphere as the Tiger Wrestlers took on the Webb City Cardinals Tuesday night at Carthage High School. The varsity and junior varsity men and women were joined by the junior high team, bringing a packed house and lots of support for the home team.
Following a full weekend of tournaments, the men recorded a 42-38 win and the ladies issued their second dual victory, finishing the Lady Cardinals off 53-23. With the exception of two forfeits by Webb City at 106 and 190 lbs., respectively, the Tigers recorded all of their wins by fall. Key matches were Kixson Reynolds over Peyton Greenlee at 113 lbs., Adam Jones over Chase Brooks at 126 lbs., Grady Huntley over Tyler Christenson at 132 lbs., Jace Nichols over Cylis French at 138 lbs., and Douglas Ball over Gauge Heilburn at 144 lbs. The junior varsity boys also took three of the four matches, with Asher Haslip (126), Erwin Paxtor (138) and Gilmer Alvarado (215) clocking wins.
On the ladies’ side, Hadley White (105) started the Tigers’ victory with a win by fall over Lexie Smith of Webb City. Mischa Drackert (110) followed with her own pin over the Cardinals’ Izabella Macari. Weights 135-145 saw three more wins by fall from Emely Hernandez Guzman, Kaylee James and Irish Lee. Ariana Medrano brought the last head-to-head win at 170 lbs. by pinning her opponent, Layla Espinoza.
This weekend, boys compete at a dual at Ray-Pec on Friday and girls compete at a tournament in Belton on Friday and Saturday. The next home event is the boys’ North/South dual tournament on December 30.
