MARYVILLE – The Missouri Southern men’s and women’s track and field teams picked up a pair of event wins and a school record as the Lions competed in the Bearcat Invite at Northwest Missouri State.

In total, the Lions had two event wins, six NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks and a school record in day one of the meet.

The men’s distance medley relay team of Gabe McClain, Brieon Randle, Nathan Painter and Ryan Riddle broke an 11-year old school record in the event by nearly three seconds when the team won the event with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 9:49.43. The time is tops in Division II this year, as well.

Claire Luallen won three events in the pentathlon, taking home wins in the 60m hurdles, the shot put and the long jump, as well as finishing second in the 800m, but fell just shy of the event title, scoring an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 3,594 points. The mark currently stands as seventh-best in Division II this season.

Gidieon Kimutai picked up a win in the 5k with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time of 14:10.00 that set a new meet record. JP Rutledge finished third, while Jarod Ozee was fourth. Rutledge had a provisional time of 14:26.17.

Jordan Banker and Elena Bisotto finished second and third in the pole vault, but had identical NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks of 3.81m as Banker finished higher on fewer misses.

Julianna Determan was third in the women’s 5k with a time of 18:05.14.

Elliot Rule was in ninth place 2,389 points after four events of the heptathlon.
