Lady Tigers fall to Nevada 42-41 on last second 3-pointer

The Lady Tiger Varsity basketball team lost a heart-breaker 42-41 on a last second 3-pointer in Nevada Thursday, Dec. 16.

“I’m very proud of how the girls battled hard for 32 minutes tonight,” Carthage coach Scott Moore told CNO.

Kianna Yates led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points and going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. Maggie Boyd added 8 points for Carthage including a 3-pointer. Lauren Choate and Landry Cochran added 3 points each while Raven Probert, Presley Probert and Zye Clark all finished with 2 points apiece.

“It was a back and forth game all night long and Nevada just happened to have the last good shot of the game and it went in,” said Moore.

The Lady Tigers, now 3-4 on the season, are back in action at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 27 in the Pink and White Tournament in Springfield.

Junior Varsity

The Lady Tiger Junior Varsity basketball team saw a one point lead at the end of the third quarter turn into a two point loss as Nevada outscored Carthage 6 to 3 in the decisive quarter for a 36-34 loss.

Jaidyn Brunnert led the Tigers in scoring with 11 points followed by 7 points from Becca Morns. Lexa Youngblood added 6 points for Carthage while Trisha Kanas added 5. Ashlyn Brust finished with 3 points and Zye Clark rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with 2 points.

Freshman

The Lady Tiger Freshman team jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they beat the Nevada Tigers 36-13 Thursday, Dec. 16.

Jenna Calhoun led all scorers with 11 points on the night. Addison Bayless and Star Maldonado followed with 6 points apiece. Ashlyn Brust added 5 points for the Tigers while Grace Brown and Lexa Youngblood rounded out the scoring with 4 points each.
