The Carthage High School girls basketball teams topped Central at the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshman levels during their matchups Monday, Dec. 13 in Springfield.

“This game was a physical battle from the opening tip to the final whistle,” Carthage Coach Scott Moore said. “I’m proud of our girls for bowing up and finding a way to gut out a win against a good Central team. Kianna Yates was our floor general tonight and kept us going on both ends of the floor. Sophie Shannon fought her way into double figures by making some crucial free throws down the stretch.

“We need to get better in practice this week because the competition will be even better on Thursday at Nevada,” said Moore.

The Tigers are now 3-3 on the year.

The JV Tigers beat Central 45-21. Becca Morris led the Tigers with 12 points followed by Jaidyn Brunnert who added 11. Lexa Youngblood chipped in with 9 points followed by Trisha Kanas with 6, Ashlyn Brust 5 and Zye Clark rounded out the scoring with 2 points.

The JV team is now 4-2 on the season.

The Freshman team topped Central 47-15 to complete the sweep. Lexa Youngblood led all scorers with 16 points.

Ashlyn Brust added 8 points followed by Jenna Calhoun with 7 point, MacKenzie Cupell added 6 points, Addison Bayless 3 and Grace Brown added 2 points to round out the scoring for the Tigers.

The Freshman team is now 2-3 on the season. All three teams will be back in action Thursday in Nevada.
