Ralph Lenvell Cortez passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 84. Born on October 1, 1940, in Carthage, Missouri, the son of the late Lewis and Leta (Irwin) Cortez.

Ralph was a proud graduate of Carthage High School, class of 1958, and furthered his education at Joplin Junior College, where he earned his associate degree. His commitment to service was evident early on as he honorably served his country with the United States Army. Following his military service, Ralph embarked on a fulfilling career at Hercules Powder Plant now Dyno Noble North America, where he dedicated 28 years before his well-deserved retirement. Ralph held a private Christian faith which guided his actions and interactions with those around him. Ralph’s involvement with the Masonic Lodge reflected his belief in brotherhood and community service. His passion for the Kansas City Chiefs was more than a pastime; it was a way to connect with others and share in the joys of life.

Ralph is survived by his loving sisters, Connie Moss of Joplin, Missouri, and Sandra Griffin of Webb City, Missouri; his brothers, Bruce Cortez (Nancy) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Carroll “C.A.” Cortez (Donna) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Cedric Cortez (Jan) of Carthage, Missouri. He was a cherished uncle to several nieces and nephews who will miss his sharp wit and enduring support. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Frances Busch, and brothers, Lewis Cortez, Shirrell Cortez, and Arthur Cortez

Ralph’s life was a testament to the power of kindness and the importance of family. He was a pillar in his community, a loyal friend, and a beloved family member. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
