Nancy Sue Lockard, 65, Carthage, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025, at her home. She was born on April 23, 1960, in Carthage, Missouri, the daughter of the late William Herbert Long and Peggy Charlene (Bass) Long. Nancy’s life was a testament to the enduring bonds of family and the simple joys that make a life well-lived.

Nancy’s early years in Carthage were filled with the warmth of a close family and the strong values that would guide her throughout her life. Her work ethic was evident to all who knew her, as she dedicated many years of service as a utility worker and backup machinery operator at General Mills in Joplin, Missouri. Her colleagues remember her as a pillar of reliability and good cheer, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh during the longest of shifts. A devout Christian, Nancy’s faith was a cornerstone of her existence, providing her with strength and comfort. She lived her beliefs through acts of kindness and an open heart, welcoming all who crossed her path with a smile and an open ear.

Nancy’s zest for life was matched by her love for her family. She is survived by her children, Breanna “Nikki” Buster (Adam), Webb City, Missouri, and Brandon Long (Ashley), Carthage, Missouri; her step-son, Jason Lockard, Independence, Missouri; her treasured grandchildren, Laney Miller (Matt), Webb City, Hannah Lockard, Independence, Peyton Long, Carthage, Addison Buster, Webb City, Kenzie Long, Carthage, and Tatym Buster, Webb City; her siblings, Marilyn Colwell, and Bill Long (Amy); and a host of extended family and friends who were blessed to know her.

Her interests were a reflection of her love for the simple pleasures in life. Nancy found joy in going on walks, where she could appreciate the beauty of nature and the changing seasons. She was often found curled up on the couch, lost in the latest episode of her favorite shows, a pastime that provided her with much-deserved relaxation. Above all, Nancy’s greatest passion was her family, especially her grandchildren, with whom she shared countless moments of laughter and love.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. The burial will follow at Pierce City Cemetery, Pierce City, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at the funeral home. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Carthage Humane Society in care of Knell Mortuary.
