Martha N. Brinkman, 94, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin. Martha was born April 29, 1924 in Scammon, KS to Burt and Nellie “Crank” Whitcomb. She was raised in Pittsburg, KS and moved to Carthage where she met and married Fred R. Brinkman. They were united in marriage on October 5, 1946 in Pittsburg, KS; he preceded her in death February 26, 1986.
Martha was a telephone operator. She and Fred also owned and operated Fairview Greenhouse. She was a member of the First Christian Church and was very active in their nursery.
Martha is survived by one daughter, Donna Aleshire of Carthage; and two grandchildren, Stephen and Michael Aleshire.
Martha was preceded in death by one son, Fred Michael Brinkman in 1973; two brothers, Frank and Harold Whitcomb; and one sister, JoAnn Engle.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2019 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Graveside services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at Park Cemetery in Carthage.
