Charlyn Irene (Ropp) Hubbard, 94, Carthage, Missouri passed away November 21, 2024 at Oak Pointe retirement home. Charlyn Hubbard was born, February 12, 1930 on a farm four miles west of Carthage – daughter of Charles Harrison Ropp and Nina Marie (Beard) Ropp.

She was a graduate of Carthage High School (1947) and attended Joplin Junior College from 1947-1949 graduating with an Associates in Music degree.

Married to Fred Hubbard May 8, 1955, they celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2015. She is preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters: Helen Williams, Bonnie Moss, and Patricia McClelen.

Charlyn lived in Jasper County her entire life (Carthage, Joplin & Heritage Acres). She always lived “within a mile of Route 66” and was an active member in the Missouri Route 66 Association. A piano teacher from 1950 to 2020 (seventy years!), she regularly heard from previous students that assured her they were still playing. It literally took a pandemic to get her to quit (because no one would come to her house – not because she wasn’t willing to teach). Full time organist at South Joplin Christian Church for 27 years, she also was a substitute organist for many area churches both before and after playing at SJCC. Charlyn played for over 700 weddings and loved to tell stories of unusual wedding happenings. She was an avid postcard collector, starting her collection at age 14, and had thousands of cards that she loved showing off. She also bowled for over 60 years.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm, Monday, December 2, 2024, at Hackney Cemetery, Carthage, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm at Knell Mortuary.
