Barbara Ann Landers Shaw Miller, 86, Carthage, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 2, 2020, at Oak Pointe Assisted Living, Carthage.

Barbara was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Carthage to the late William “Bill” Landers and Lora Mae (Ross) Landers Wooten. She was a 1951 graduate of Carthage High School. After graduation, she worked for the FBI in Kansas City, Mo., for five years. She then returned to Carthage in 1956 and married Marvin Lee Shaw on Sept. 1, 1956; he preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 1977. To this union, a son and daughter were born.

Barbara was employed at the Bank of Carthage and the Bank of Jasper for several years. She was also a volunteer for the Jasper Area Ambulance as an EMT for 9 years and served on the Board of Directors as the treasurer for 26 years. Barbara was a notary public for Jasper County for 40 years and served as a volunteer at Mercy McCune Hospital for a few years. After Marvin’s passing, she was employed by Dr. Richard Barlet as receptionist and bookkeeper for a few years and then employed at the Jasper Farmer’s Exchange as bookkeeper for several years. Barbara then married Gerald “Jerry” Miller on Sept. 26, 1987, and they resided on his farm southwest of Jasper, until moving to Carthage in July of 2008; he preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 2010. She worked at Precious Moments as the cash receipts supervisor for 12 years where she retired at the end of 2000. She was a faithful member of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ.

Survivors include her children, David Shaw and wife Joyce, Carthage, Mo., Patricia Duncan and husband Tinker, Lamar, Mo., Monte Miller and wife Tammi, Jasper, Mo., and Marsha Anderson and husband Tom, Crystal City, Mo.; grandchildren, Tommie Anderson and wife Tina, St. Louis, Mo., Todd Anderson and wife Maranda, Hermann, Mo., Trevor Anderson and wife Mandy, Festus, Mo., Jeremy Miller and wife Lindsay, Austin, Texas, Jessica Miller, Bentonville, Ark., and Natalie Jabusch and husband Brandon, Bella Vista, Ark.; great-grandchildren, Thomas Anderson, Trent Anderson, Parker Anderson, Trey Anderson, Max Miller, Declan Miller, Aubrey Miller, Sophia Morey; and several nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, William Thurlow Landers and Billie Herman Landers, and a great-granddaughter, Morgan Anderson.

Barbara will lie in state from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, April 6, 2020, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Private family services will be held at Hackney Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to Hackney Cemetery, Paradise Cemetery or a charity of choice in care of Knell Mortuary.
