CARTHAGE, Mo. — Jasper County Commissioners are announcing a burn ban effective Sept. 1, 2026, due to dry conditions and an increased risk of wildfire and uncontrolled outdoor fires.
Under the burn ban, outdoor burning is prohibited throughout Jasper County, including the burning of brush, leaves, grass, trash, and other combustible materials.
Residents are urged to take the ban seriously. Dry vegetation can ignite quickly, and fires can spread rapidly, particularly when accompanied by warm temperatures, low humidity, or windy conditions. Residents should:
- Not conduct outdoor burning while the ban is in effect.
- Not burn leaves, brush, trash, or other yard waste.
- Avoid activities that could unintentionally ignite dry vegetation.
- Use extreme caution with equipment that produces heat, sparks, or open flames.
- Make sure any previously authorized fire is completely extinguished.
The burn ban will remain in effect until Sept. 30, 2026, or until conditions improve and the ban is officially lifted.
