Carthage man killed in fiery crash

A Carthage man was killed in a one-vehicle accident 5:25 a.m. today on County Road 170 two miles west of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1992 Ford F-150 driven by a 78-year-old Carthage man traveled off the right side of the road and caught fire.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by at 5:41 a.m. by Jasper County Coroner James Harrison.

The fatality was the 58th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
