The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney’s office filed a terrorist threat charge today against a Carthage man who allegedly threatened to bring a gun into Mercy Clinic, 1717 S. Rangeline Wednesday.
An arrest warrant was issued for Yue Pheng Xiong (DOB 1994) with bond set at $10,000 cash or surety, with the conditions that Xiong can’t possess a firearm or go within 500 feet of Mercy Clinic.
From the probable cause statement:
On 11/12/2025 at approximately 09:59 hours, in the County of Jasper Missouri, within in the city limits of Joplin, Yue Xiong committed the crime of terroristic threats second degree by making statements to staff of a medical facility that he was going to go get a gun.
Cristopher Volkman stated Mr Xiong had walked his wife from the facility and then returned. Mr. Volkman stated Mr. Xiong was upset and asking who the provider was. Mr. Volkman stated Mr. Xiong advised he was going to go get a gun.
Dalton Toay stated he had seen Mr. Xiong’s wife for a workers compensation appointment. Mr. Toay stated Mr. Xiong and his wife were upset when they were told her injuries were not going to be covered by workers compensation.
Mr. Xiong was contacted later in the morning. Mr. Xiong was read his rights (Miranda Warning) and advised he understood his rights. Mr. Xiong stated he had been at the appointment with his wife. Mr. Xiong stated he did go back inside the facility and was upset. Mr. Xiong stated he did mention going to get a gun, but did not mention going back to the facility.
