Annual artCentral picnic to draw area artists like ‘big family reunion’

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The connection between artists is the heart behind the next highly anticipated event with the local non-profit, artCentral.

The annual Membership Show draws a special kind of creativity and vibrant expression of area artists like none other. The Hyde House in Carthage plays host to a membership of approximately 180 families with an exhibit kick-off potluck picnic May 29, prefaced with a Plein Air Paint May 16-19, and echoes through July 17 with the show on display for all to enjoy.

“What I love most about the Membership Show picnic is the diverse varieties of mediums and styles,” said artCentral director Cheryl Church. “The picnic is like a big family reunion. The yard is full of people, and then the house is filled, too. We’ll have artistic activities, and tables of food that line the driveway – it’s fantastic.”

Ways to support the organization and promote local business abound with artCentral. Small voting boxes are decked out with sponsors’ logos and décor, where artists and their families cast their vote for their favorite works at this event. There’s a 50/50 drawing that benefits the upcoming kids’ summer Art Camp, and the artists’ option to silent auction to further the mission of supporting young aspiring artists.

Events, workshops and art exhibits fill the artCentral calendar all year long. There are many different ways to give to the organization – that is always giving back to the community – and be involved. Those interested may visit artcentralcarthage.org for more information or reach out to 417-358-4404. Gallery hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays. Find the artCentral gift shop in the back of Sarahendipity on the Carthage Square, and a creative space where workshops take place.
