The Carthage R-9 School Foundation is pleased to announce its Trivia Night Fundraiser, benefiting the Foundation and Carthage Schools. This year’s Trivia Night is a welcome chance to get together with friends, engage in some friendly competition, win some great prizes and support the Foundation. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at 6 p.m. at Bykota Church.

Director Crystal Brown is excited about the upcoming event.

“We are so thankful to be able actually hold an event this year,” Brown said. “Covid put a stop to so many activities, and we have not been able to gather for two years. This will be a great chance to get together, and we are incredibly grateful for the support we have seen during the last year. Bykota Church has been gracious in granting us use of their amazing facilities, which will allow guests to social distance comfortably and compete in an evening of fun and charity.”

Guests can also look forward to a raffle drawing for the evening’s major prizes, entertainment between rounds, and giveaways for each round.  A limited snack bar will be available, as well.

While the Carthage R-9 School Foundation, itself, has been in existence since the 90s, Mrs. Brown often gets questions about their role and function in the community.

“In technical terms, the Foundation is the not-for-profit arm of the Carthage R-9 School District, and helps provide funding for students and employees when the need falls outside the normal school budget,” Brown says.

Still stumped? Brown laughs as she explains, “I often joke that I’m the Chandler Bing (from the Friends television show) of Carthage. When I introduce myself as Crystal Brown, Director of the Carthage R-9 School Foundation, people say ‘That’s great, but what do you DO?’ The easiest answer is that we hold contests in different areas that give away donor money to students, we establish, maintain and award scholarships to seniors, we procure and award grants to teachers and clubs, and we help people purchase naming rights opportunities such as brick pavers, locker nameplates and larger items like stadiums and buildings.”

Brown says that events like Trivia Night allow the Foundation to continue supporting the needs of district students and employees, as well as donors in the area.

“It definitely takes a large support system to maintain our organization, and we are eternally grateful for the many people that make up the Foundation’s network,” says Brown. “Right now, we are specifically looking for teams to sign up and compete, and sponsors to provide overall monetary support. The entry fee is $100 per team of six until October 15. After the 15th, the cost is $120 per team.”
