CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Alliance of Southwest Missouri is hosting a series of summer block parties for the residents of Deerfield Village Apartments in Carthage, Mo. The first event will be from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021.

This event is closed to the public, but for good measure. The residents at Deerfield Village Apartments were chosen by The Alliance through their Carthage coalition (Carthage Caring Communities). The apartment complex is for individuals who are low-income, many who have been drastically impacted by the pandemic. Assistance for basic needs – like food, housing, and utilities – is at an all-time high. It’s created immense pressure for parents, and a lack of focus on fun.

The Arvest Foundation donated $7,750 to fund three block parties for residents. Extra funds were included to help build a community garden that will create a lasting impact for years to come. Those who attend the summer block parties will receive resources and education for families. The parties will be relaxing and engaging for the parents, but lots of fun for the kids. The Alliance will be hosting games, activities, and food.

The goal is to go beyond having fun, however. Prevention and education are key principles at The Alliance. That’s why funds from The Carthage Community Foundation will go to hosting Parent Café’s for residents at Deerfield Village. It’s a great opportunity for parents to get to know their neighbors, form supportive relationships, and learn about different ways to approach parenting with their children.

The block party kickoff is from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 25. It will include a ceremony for the garden dedication, food, games and activities for kids, and assistance for families to sign up for the Parent Café’s.
