Ozark Gateway Master Gardener Plant Sale set for May 3

Master Gardeners are eager to share their plants and knowledge at the upcoming plant sale.

Ozark Gateway Master Gardeners will hold their annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 at Joplin Crosslines, 320 S. School Ave., Joplin. Look for the big greenhouse north of the building when you arrive.

Efforts were made to divide and share perennial plants growing in the master gardeners’ gardens. There will be lots to look over for purchase at reasonable prices. Additionally, the gardeners are always successful in starting a wide variety of tomato and pepper plants from seed. Tomato varieties include Sandwich Slicer, Roma, Beefsteak and Cherry tomatoes. Many other vegetable plants will be available.

Herbs, natives and houseplants will also be available.

New this year will be a tent for educational programs. Master Gardeners will share their knowledge on several gardening areas in quick 15-minute programs. The program topics are soil preparation, growing succulents, growing tomatoes and peppers and growing herbs.

As always there will be time for questions concerning plants during the sale.

This chapter of master gardeners is responsible for the Pollinator Demonstration Garden at Shoal Creek as well as a Children’s Garden at the Webb City Farmers Market. Children have the opportunity to plant, water and eat these vegetables.

Members of the group have grown fresh vegetables for the clients at Crosslines. Last year more than 3,500 pounds of food was shared.

Members are always happy to share their gardening knowledge to a variety of groups in the area.

Ozark Gateway is one of several chapters across the state. The mission of Missouri Extension Master Gardener program is “helping others learn to grown.” The Master Gardener program provides in depth horticultural training to individuals throughout Missouri who then volunteer their time applying what they learned to help others in their communities to learn about gardening.
