Morris named CHS boy’s basketball coach

Nathan Morris has been selected Head Boy’s Basketball Coach for Carthage High School. Coach Morris most recently has served Carthage High School as assistant coach for the Tiger basketball team. He also has been an assistant coach for the CHS football team. Coach Morris inherits a team with four returning varsity starters and several other players who saw varsity playing time.

Morris prepped at Field Kindley Memorial High School in Coffeyville, Kansas. He was a two-year starter for basketball, 3-year starter for football, and three-year letterwinner in track & field. He earned prep recognition in football as a two-time All-Conference player. He also garnered All-Region status in the high jump in track & field.

Morris continued his athletic career at Coffeyville Community College in football where he was first team All-Conference and was a two-year member of the Jayhawk Conference Honor Roll where he played in bowl games in Utah and Georgia. He then attended Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas as a member of the Gorilla football team. While there he was a two-year starter and three-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

Morris is looking forward to getting started leading the Tigers’ hoops team, “I would like to thank the Carthage Administration for this opportunity, and I am beyond thrilled and honored to lead the basketball program. My family is ecstatic to start the next phase of the life we have started here in Carthage. We also can’t wait to build upon the already established relationships with the community, parents, and student-athletes; as well as the new ones to come in the future.”

Morris holds a Masters Degree in Special Education Teaching and a Bachelors degree in History, both from PSU. He teaches special education at Carthage High School.
