CARTHAGE, Mo. — Looking ahead, Dr. Harold Haskins and Dr. Ronnie Rogers were the visionaries behind the annual auction fundraiser benefiting Crowder College’s Agriculture division. The event that has raised over $100,000 in scholarship funds for Crowder College Agriculture students over the past 9 years. Today as the gavel dropped, the late bred Angus heifer, donated by Dr. Max and Lynn Ruhl, brought nearly $9,000, after she was “sold” eighteen times adding to the success of the annual sale.

Each year, a Cattlemen’s Association member generously donates an animal to be auctioned at the event. Local cattlemen, businesses, farmers and ranchers come together to support the endeavor at Joplin Regional Stockyards. This year, Nick Neese, was the final high bidder, adding the premium heifer to his herd.

“Crowder Agriculture is proud of the partnership with the Newton and McDonald County Cattlemen’s Association and Joplin Regional Stockyards, as scores of students have benefited from the generosity and trust the ag community has shown,” emphasized Jorge Zapata, Crowder Agriculture Division Chair. The funds go to support scholarships for students majoring in Animal Science, Ag Business, Agronomy, Ag Education, Pre-Vet and Veterinary Technology.
