DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with Lincoln University and with financial support from NC-SARE\, MU Extension will host the 4th Annual Sheep and Goat Field Day\, which will focus on management-intensive grazing. The field day will be held Aug. 7 at the Southwest Missouri Research\, Extension and Education Center\, 14548 State Rd. H\, Mt. Vernon\, MO 65712. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.\, and the event concludes at 4:30 p.m. \nTopics will include \n\nForage/animal selection\nNutritional management\nParasite control\nEconomics/marketing\nGrazing system layout\, design\, water and fencing\nForage quality and quantity evaluation\nHealth and body condition score evaluation\n\nFor more information or to reserve a booth\, contact the Cedar County MU Extension Center at (417) 276-3313. SUMMARY:Missouri Black Bears Virtual Program July 31
DESCRIPTION:Black bears have returned to the Missouri landscape\, especially in the southern parts of the state. But sightings have become a regular occurrence even in the St. Louis region. \nThe Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) is offering a chance to learn all about these charismatic creatures through an online event. Missouri Black Bears is a free virtual program happening Friday\, July 31\, from 10:30 a.m. – noon. MDC naturalists will cover the most important information Missouri residents should know about the Show-Me-State’s expanding bear population. \nOnce considered extirpated from the state\, Missouri black bears are beginning to make an impressive comeback. This program will explore the history of these fascinating mammals and the research efforts happening in Missouri. It will also discuss how to reduce human-bear conflict as their numbers continue to grow. \nThis virtual program is free and open to the public; however\, each participant must register separately in advance at http://short.mdc.mo.gov/op2 to receive an online meeting link. Log-in instructions will be provided to participants beforehand. The program will be held via Webex\, and participants will have the chance to use the chat feature for a question-and-answer portion with the naturalists.

DESCRIPTION:Monday\, July 6\, 2026 \nRevolutionary War Patriots and Their Role in the Settlement of the Cape Girardeau District (Program) \n7:00 pm to 8:00 pm \nThe Library Center\, 4653 S. Campbell Ave.\, Springfield\, MO and Zoom \nWhat do a teenaged boy from Virginia in 1776\, a South Carolina farmer in 1781\, and a North Carolina merchant who emigrated from Scotland in 1772 have in common? These three men and dozens of others who served the patriot cause in the American Revolution were all early settlers in the Cape Girardeau District\, Missouri. Indeed\, the Revolution set off a chain of events that led to the founding of Cape Girardeau and a number of other eastern Missouri communities. The increasing availability of a variety of records has made research on Revolutionary ancestors easier than ever. In this presentation Bill Eddleman –coordinator of the Cape Girardeau Research Center of the State Historical Society of Missouri—focuses on case studies of 12 men who emigrated to the Cape Girardeau District from 1797 to 1830 and contributed to the new settlement. Use of traditional and newly-available records and their value in similar research will be emphasized. Attendance Options: In person at The Library Center\, 4653 S.
