Fly-Fishing Gear MDC Virtual Event

May 12 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Learn about fly-fishing gear at May 12 MDC virtual event

Free online program designed for those who are new to the sport.

BRANSON, Mo. – Fly fishing is a unique form of fishing that has its own set of equipment and lures.

People who want to learn more about the equipment and this distinctive style of fishing should register for the free Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) virtual program “Fishing Skills: Virtual Fly-Fishing Gear for Beginners.” This online program, which is 5:30-6:30 p.m. on May 12, is being put on by the staff of MDC’s Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center in Branson. People can register for this event at:

At this event, MDC naturalist and long-time fly-fishing enthusiast Bryon Putman will talk about the equipment needed to get started in the sport. Putman will cover the types of rods, reels, lines, and flies that can be used when fly fishing.

Though this program is free, registration is required to participate using the link above. Registrants must provide an e-mail, so a program link can be sent to them. People can stay informed about upcoming programs at the Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center and other nearby MDC facilities by signing up for text alerts and e-mail bulletins. People who have questions about how to sign up for text alerts from the Shepherd of the Hills or who want information about upcoming events can call 417-334-4865, ext. 0.

The Shepherd of the Hills Conservation Center is part of MDC’s Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery and is located at 483 Hatchery Road on the west end of Lake Taneycomo near Branson.

Staff at MDC facilities across the state are holding virtual and in-person programs. A listing of these programs can be found at mdc.mo.gov/events.
