Federal land grants were central to the nation’s expansion and left behind a rich body of records invaluable to genealogists. This session, presented by Certified Genealogist Patti Hobbs, will provide an overview of the public land system and explain its systematic structure. Attendees will gain practical guidance on locating and interpreting federal land records, with strategies for identifying ancestral properties and placing families within the broader historical movement westward.
