CARTHAGE, Mo. — Before the Maple Leaf Parade makes its way through Carthage, a longstanding community tradition will bring residents and visitors together over a stack of pancakes at the Carthage Fire Department.
The department’s annual Pancake Feed will be held from 6 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Fire Station 1, 401 W. Chestnut St. Tickets are $8 per plate for all-you-can-eat pancakes, with proceeds supporting the fire department.
The breakfast has become a familiar part of Maple Leaf Festival parade day, giving families and friends a place to gather before heading downtown for one of Carthage’s signature annual events.
The tradition also offers an opportunity for residents to spend time with the firefighters who serve Carthage and the surrounding area. The fire station opens its doors to the community for breakfast, conversation and a chance to support the department’s work.
For many festivalgoers, the morning meal is part of the day’s routine, fitting breakfast and community fellowship into the hours before the parade begins. Visitors attending the festival for the first time can also take part in the tradition while getting an early start on the day’s activities.
The fundraiser is an opportunity for the community to show its support for local firefighters, who work year-round to protect residents and property.
Those planning to attend can stop by Fire Station 1 between 6 and 9:30 a.m. Oct. 17, enjoy breakfast and then make their way downtown for the Maple Leaf Parade.
